Den 01.01.2010 markiert nicht nur den Anfang eines neuen Jahres, sondern auch eines neuen Jahrzehnts. ’New Year Rap’ will ein wenig dafür sensibilisieren, dass man nicht einfach in so’n bedeutenden Zeitabschnitt nach dem Motto ‘business as usual’ hineinstolpern, sondern mit einer guten Einstellung und die dazu passenden Vorsätzen hellwach hineinschreiten soll (ab Klasse 9).

January 1, 2010 is not only the start of a new year, but also the beginning of a new decade. New Year Rap is meant to sharpen students’ awareness that you don’t just stumble into such a significant period of time with business-as-usual nonchalance, but rather enter it very consciously with the right attitude and resolutions.

Raps eignen sich hervorragend als motivierenden Einstieg in aktuelle Themen, oder als idealen” Pausenfüller” für Einzel- bzw. Vertretungsstunden. In diesem Rap geht es um die Tatsache, dass die Aussprache von Zahlen im Deutschen anders ist als in vielen anderen modernen Sprachen. Im Deutschen sagt man ‘einundzwanzig’ anstatt ‘zwanzig(und)eins’. Lothar Gerritzen, Mathematikprofessor in Bochum, fordert eine Reform der Aussprache von Zahlen. Das jetzige System sei unlogisch und unnötig kompliziert. ‘Wir lesen von hinten nach vorne,’ sagt er. Bis eine solche Reform durchgeführt wird – was sicherlich nicht von heute auf morgen passieren wird – kann dieser Rap deutschen Schülern helfen, den Sprung vom Deutschen Zählen ins Englisch zu schaffen.

This rap is about the fact that the German way to count is different than in many other modern languages. Germans say ‘one and twenty’ instead of ‘twenty-one’. A German mathematics professor wants this system changed. He calls it unlogical and unnecessarily complicated. Until the time such a reform takes place – such things take time – this rap can help German students make the leap from the German way of counting to the English way.

Asked to explain why they eat so little fruit, young people typically say, ‘Fruit is boring.’  If you ask them how many kinds of fruit they can name, they manage to name only three or four kinds. No wonder that they think of fruit as boring!

Tiger in the Woods Rap – dankbar angelehnt an William Blakes ‘The Tiger’ – ist ein nachdenklicher Rap über den tiefen Fall eines weltberühmten Sportlers. Tiger Woods war nicht nur dominant in seiner Sportart, sondern hatte auch ein werbewirksames Image als sauberen Athlet und Familienvater.

Tiger in the Woods Rap is a thoughtful rap about the shocking fall of a world famous athlete. Tiger Woods wasn’t only dominant in his chosen sport, but he also had a promotionally effective image as a clean sportsman and family man.

In diesem Rap geht es um das geflügelte Wort, “Standing on the shoulders of giants”. Das Wort wird von verschiedenen Seiten beleuchtet.

Zentral dabei ist die Perspektive, dass wir alle von dem Leben und den Leistungen der ‘Giganten’ profitieren können (ab Klasse 9).

This rap is about the well-known saying, “Standing on the shoulders of giants”.  It elucidates various aspects of the saying from the point of view that all of us  profit from the life and achievements of the ‘giants’.

Matt hat ein schlechtes Gewissen. Er hat das Gefühl, sein Tagesbuch zu vernachlässigen. Als Wiedergutmachung widmet er seinem Tagebuch einen Rap über eine Begegnung mit einer bildhübschen Fernfahrerin (ab Klasse 9)

Matt has a bad conscience for neglecting his diary. To make amends he writes a rap about an encounter with a gorgeous lady truck driver and dedicates it to his diary.
