RED CARPET FOR CARELESS
It was late in the evening of the third or fourth day of his Mongusi expedition. Careless was studying a map of the area he would drive to the next day. He was tired but happy. That morning he had got some fantastic film of a cheetah, including a scene in which it ran down a gazelle. After a while, when the campfire was almost out, he went into his tent and fell asleep almost immediately. That night Careless had a horrible dream. It was about a forest fire, and he was caught right in the middle of it. He ran and ran, but the fire was faster. Then, suddenly, the flames reached him. That was when he woke up. His heart was going so fast it was difficult to breathe. He felt as if he was burning all over. ‘Oh!’ Careless cried. There was something on his skin. Jumping up, he ran out of the tent into the moonlight. What he saw made him made him shake with fear. There were ants, red ants, all over his body! They were all over the ground, too, like a red carpet, a moving red carpet. When Careless looked at the dish he had caught for breakfast, all he could see was bones! He had to get the ants off his body. But for every ant he brushed off, ten more came to take its place.
Suddenly, all around him, animals came rushing out of the forest, all of them covered with ants and running for their lives!

It must first of all be said that texting can be very beneficial.
It facilitates two things crucial to teens: companionship and connectedness. On the other hand, texting can have a detrimental effect on teen development. In the end, whether it will be beneficial or detrimental depends – as with many other things – on how it is used.
This phenomenon presents a difficult challenge to teachers, one that should be dealt with head-on in school. I would strongly urge that English teachers take up the challenge and do a lesson sequence on the dangers of addictive texting.
