Auszug Superfox

Superfox - ein englisches Theaterstück
ACT 1
Scene 1 The King is sitting on his throne, reading a newspaper, when his servant enters.
SERVANT: I’ve got bad news, Your Majesty. A golden apple was missing again this morning!
KING: What? Didn’t we post a guard there? I can’t believe it! Someone is stealing our
golden apples and our best soldiers can’t stop them! What’s going on here? Throw
that soldier into the dungeon with the others!
SERVANT: Yes, Your Majesty. (Servant turns and heads for door)
KING (to himself): Right. We’ll do it another way. Whoever is behind this isn’t going to
get away with it. But if I can’t depend on my soldiers, who can I depend on? I can’t
do it myself. I’m too old to stay up all night and guard the tree. Hmm. (he thinks for a moment) I’ve got it!
James! (Servant stops at door and turns)
SERVANT: Your Majesty?
KING: Go and get my eldest son at once!
SERVANT: Yes, Your Majesty. (Servant bows and exits)
That night, the eldest son is keeping watch under the tree with the golden apples. For
a while he is able to stay awake by singing a song, but by and by, he falls asleep. A
moment later, a golden bird flies to the tree, picks an apple, and flies away with it.
The next morning…
The King is sitting on his throne when his eldest son George enters.
GEORGE: I’m sorry, Father, but I’ve got bad news. Another one of our golden apples is
missing. I tried my best to stay awake, but I fell asleep for a few minutes. The
thief came while I was sleeping and stole the apple.
KING: You idiot! I ask you to stay awake one night for me and you can’t even do that.
Go and get Harry! And George – you are grounded for today. Don’t you dare leave
the palace. Not for one minute. If you do, you’ll spend a week in the dungeon!
