Bei der Gestaltung von Dialog, soll man auf zwei Punkte achten: Erstens, wenn Sie die Dialog-Techniken zu häufig verwenden wird der Dialog förmlich begraben. Es ist der Tod des Dialogs. In einem gut gestalteten Dialog sollten mehrere Dialog-Sätze allein stehen, ohne ‘tags’.

Zweitens, soll man die eine oder andere Technik nicht einseitig verwenden. So bekommt der Dialog eine hölzerne, mechanische Prägung. Variation, die gute Mischung aller drei Techniken,  bringt einen Dialog am besten zur Geltung.

When writing dialogue, there are two things to avoid: Firstly, you shouldn’t overuse dialogue techniques. That way dialogue gets buried and can no longer be heard. It is the death of dialogue. In other words, in a well-written dialogue many of the sentences will stand alone.

Secondly, you shouldn’t overuse any one technique, e.g. only the Simple Tag. That way your dialogue has a wooden, mechanical character. Variation, the mixture of all three dialogue techniques, brings out the best in a dialogue.

The worksheet provides a framework for practicing variation. It contains a dialogue about a girl asking her girlfriend for advice about a boy she likes. It consists of twenty sentences. The task is to dress it up with a well-balanced mixture of dialogue techniques, including 5 Simple Tags, 5 Tags + Description, 5 Tags without Links and 5 tagless sentences.
