VERB + OBJECT + INFINITIVE
The following verbs are normally used with an object and an infinitve: advise allow ask (=invite) order permit teach tell (=order) want warn
A) Correct the following sentences, using the object + infinitive construction:
1-My doctor advised that I stay indoors for a week. My doctor advised me to stay indoors…
2-They allowed that we stay out until ten.
3-Troy asked that she come with him.
4-The general ordered that the soldiers attack the enemy.
5-Mrs. Hawkins permitted that her daughter see the movie.
6-The old man taught that he study harder.
7-He tells that we should always keep calm.
8-Candy wanted that her mother come with her.
9-The professor warned the prime minister that she shouldn’t attend the conference.
B) One of the most frequent grammar mistakes made by German students is with the verb ‘want’. Here’s an extra exercise on ‘want’. Correct the following sentences:
