The novel “snakeman” by Paul Davenport is a coming-of-age-story, it’s a a bit love story mixed with excitement.
The book tells the story of Cathy Crosby, who is a new girl at Portland High. She plays the part of the nice girl but she can’t get around the snakeman. He threatens her to pay her weekly dues or he’ll be forced to hurt her or her brother. Cathy decides to do what he wants from her. At the same time she gets to know Jamie Hanson and falls in love with him. When the Snakeman wants more from her then paying the weekly dues, she decides to talk to her mother and Jamie. The Climax is reached, when the whole school reads about the snakeman and his machinations. In the end is it all to Cathy and the other victims of the snakeman, to overcome their fears of the returning of the snakeman, but he won’t return. He dies in a drug bust.
